281 Overpasses NOW is a non-profit, non-partisan, group of citizens whose goal is to educate our neighbors here in Bexar County about the plans that our elected officials and non-elected agencies have to force unnecessary tolls on US Highway 281 north of Loop 1604.  What should be happening (and in fact should have already been completed) is the construction of The Original Plan.  Instead, The Current Plan will have an enormous negative impact on each of us, regardless of whether we use this road or not.  There was and still is a way to relieve congestion throughout our city and county and keep our already-paid-for roads as freeways rather than toll roads.

Founded by Terri Hall, founder of Texans United for Reform and Freedom www.texasturf.org and Texans for Toll-Free Highways www.tollfreehighways.com (previously the San Antonio Toll Party) 281OverPassesNOW was launched in 2008 when it became clear that TxDOT, the ARMA, SAMPO and other agencies were determined to move forward on their plan to construct the first of many planned toll projects for our area without giving the citizens the chance to vote.  In spite of repeated efforts from the citizens of Bexar County in asking their elected officials to give them the chance to vote for or against such plans, they have completely ignored their constituents and it has been “politics as usual.”  We, the citizens of Bexar County, are experiencing double taxation without representation in the truest sense.

We hope that you take the time to read the information contained in the articles on this website as well as view the Video/Audio Archives section.  These are designed to give you the truth in a simple yet accurate format.  We are confident that once you’ve taken the time to educate yourself, you will be able to share this information with others in a clear and effective manner.  Our hope is that you will also be inspired to get involved by helping us stop the nonsense and bring common sense back to our politicians.  We stand in the gap between corrupt governmental abuse and you, our friends and neighbors, ready to fight.  We ask that you stand with us.  With your help, we can win!
